ADVENTURE BY BIKE®

2011 SaddleDrive and Dealer Camp

Many of the Salsa Crew spent last week in Utah sharing our new model year 2012 products with our dealers. Here are a few sneak peeks as well as some images showcasing Utah's mountain riding experience.

Make no mistake, this was a dedicated work trip. In three consecutive days, we set up 3 different tradeshow and expo booths. That is no small feat. Thankfully we came prepared with an army of people and got it done. We did this to share next year's Salsa bike plan with our dealers. It was a challenge but in the end, I think it was an incredible trip and the perfect way to share our future products with key retailers.

Before we get into pictures, I want to let folks know that we have a very large website update and push going live later this month around Eurobike time (August 31st-September 3). This update will include ALL of our new bike & frame products. We know there are a bunch of photos and bits of info out there already. We also know there are quite a few questions. Please be patient as we prepare the information. This past week was focused on dealers and we need this time to prepare the info for consumers.  For those wondering when stuff will be in stock, keep in mind this is next year's product and some of it will not be available until after the new year. That said, blue Mukluks, Chili Con Crosso's and new Mamasita frames will be here sometimet this month.

So with that, here are some pics and a few spy shots of new products and new colors.

After tradeshow booth set up, I treated the crew to a Star burger at the Shooting Star Saloon in Huntsville. If you get a chance, go here. You won't forget it.

Our booth was very, very busy. In this pic you can see the black Chili Con Crosso, the new El Mariachi Blue, hints at some additional Spearfish colors, and a peak at the new Horsethief trail bike.

Day 2 was a demo day for dealers at the amazing Snow Basin resort. We had El Mariachi Ti, El Mariachi steel, Horsethief, Spearfish, Mamasita, Mukluk and Mukluk Ti bikes all ready for test rides. Wow is all I can say. What a setting. While we had hopes of riding there ourselves, it was just too busy getting dealers set up on bikes. Next time we'll spend some additional time here and get to ride ourselves.

One of my favorite moments at Snow Basin was when Paul Schmidt, owner of Bikes And More, from Gainseville, Florida showed up in full time trial gear. His bike of choice? Our new Mukluk Ti of course. He was flat out flying.

Day 3 moved us to Dealer Camp in Park City. This is an industry event specifically for dealers. Again, this was work so E-Fred and I snuck out before sunrise and returned before the expo opened. It was incredible. We were both on our new higher end Spearfish (this won't be available until early 2012). Simply amazing. The mountain air and golden hour light took our breath away.

The real hit of the demo weekend was our new Horsethief, our 5" 29er trail bike designed for rugged terrain. This is one amazing trail bike. The trails at Snow Basin and in Park City were simply perfectly suited to this bike. Koski and I snuck out on Thursday AM for a chair lift run and some photos. The bike above is a prototype and not to actual spec as the new Fox 34 platform 29er forks are not available yet. We only had one of them and it was for our show bike. Note: This will be available in early 2012.

All in all, our SaddleDrive event followed by Dealer Camp was an incredible event. The Salt Lake City-Ogden-Park City areas have such amazing beauty, incredible trails and great people that we can't wait to go back.

PS...Again, complete info due around Eurobike time.

It was a great trip! I really enjoyed the mountains. The Spearfish, Horsethief and the reliable El Mariachi were my favorites.
Good luck in Alaska,

that’s fine as long as they offer a steel version as well..  some of us want a Salsa road bike but can’t or don’t want to spend the $$$ for Ti…

Pete Goeser | August 19th, 2011

Fine goods, folks. I’m “this close” to ordering up a steel El Mar. I could pull the trigger on a 2011 right now, but I’d like to know how the build specs change for 2012. No significant changes? I order today. Different fork/crankset? Hmmm. Maybe hold off a couple months.

Any advice?

Thanks to all at Salsa and the forums!
