2016 Dirty Kanza 200—The Dirty Five: Matt Acker

This year Salsa is sending the Dirty 13.5 to participate in 2016's Dirty Kanza 200. Matt Acker is Dirty No. 5.

Salsa Cycles: What is your goal at this year’s DK200?

Matt Acker: To claim a step on the overall podium again!

SC: What is your biggest fear going into the event?

MA: Dealing with the heat if conditions are hot and dry. I prefer the rain, wind, and mud from last year’s event.

SC: What have you done to prepare and how are you combating that fear?

MA: I spent some time training down in Tennessee, trying to get used to the warmer temperatures since it’s been pretty mild here in Michigan so far. It’s always windy here in West Michigan, so that doesn’t bother me. I’ve also been experimenting with some different electrolyte delivery methods and hydration options.

SC: What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Dirty Kanza event?

MA: I’m looking forward to the comradery and endless gravel roads. The solitude of the Flint Hills and the beautiful terrain is awe-inspiring.

From what I’ve seen you’ve been riding strong I think you are ready for this. Though you like the intense weather, I’m hoping for a mild day with light winds. Haha, one can hope. Myself and all of West Mi are rooting for ya!!

There’s certainly a lot to know about this subject. I love all of
the points you’ve made.
