Congratulations to Gerry Pflug

Today we congratulate Salsa sponsored rider Gerry Pflug for his SS win at the Wilderness 101 this past weekend in Coburn, Pennsylvania.

Gerry placed 8th Overall at the race while winning the Singlespeed class. I'm no mathmatician, but that SS win should lock him as 2011 NUE Series Singlespeed Champion, which is the goal Gerry set for himself this season.

I've only had the pleasure of meeting Gerry once, at last year's Interbike show. But as is often the case, a person is quite different in person than the vision you've formed of them in your mind ahead of time. I had imagined a very driven person that would be extremely intense...probably a bit too intense for me!  What I know now is that Gerry is quite different from that.

He is certainly driven. There is no escaping that, and frankly I don't believe anyone could win a single NUE Series race, let alone become a NUE Series Champion without being driven. For a peak at just a bit of what it takes, read his latest blog post which tells the quick tale of what the month of July was like for him. He is certainly a busy man.

But he is also quite personable and inclusive with his knowledge. To us at Salsa, that's an important thing. We try to share what we know, while learning from what others will share with us.

So today we congratulate the Pfluginator. He's only part way through his racing season but is already accomplishing many of his goals. Well done Gerry!

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

Kid and others…I did it!

I finished my 15th Leadville Trail 100 mile mountain bike race on Saturday riding a Salsa Mukluk.  It was an epic ride.  I finish in 11 hours and 28 minutes.  It was a HUGE HIT in Leadville leading up to the event…and over the top to all the riders and crews who saw me in the event.  Hoots all day, go DOC…go Salsa…go Mukluk…go Fat Bike…go Pugsly (boo)  I purchased a kit from your store and wore that too.  I sent the story and pictures to your support e-mail address.  Enjoy.  So many of my friends and others who I let ride my Mukluk are all buying one…what a HOOT.

Always,

Doc

DOC,  I was one of them hollering at ya!  I caught up to you early on the Columbine climb and was stoked to see you cranking those fatties up that mountain.  Congrats on your 15th!  It was a first for me, and I have a feeling I’ll be back!  Had a blast!

I remember, we we low on the climb in the Aspens.  Thanks so much for the encourgagement.  It was a day full of wonderful support from so many people.  I am really proud to have been the first to do Leadville on a Salsa snow bike.  I will be interesting to see if someone else steps up to do the ride.  At the end of the day it was as if Joe Frazer and Mohamad Ali had been betting on my arms for 12 rounds.  It was a great day and a great ride.  Congrats on your finish and look me up when you come back to Leadville.
