Fall Colors

One of the things we at Salsa attempt to do on a quarterly basis is to do what we call 'Ride Days'. These are days that we try to stay out of the office (not as easy as it sounds), and do a Salsa 'team' (not my typical language) ride. That's what many of us did last Friday on an incredibly spectacular fall day here in Minneapolis.

We actually have a few goals with Salsa Ride Days. Team building/socializing, riding models of our bikes that we haven't had a chance to spend time on (not everyone is involved with riding prototypes for each and every model we develop), and also to capture some photography that we can (hopefully) use on our website or in print collateral.

Last Friday's Ride Day had us heading west out of Minneapolis on the Luce Line trail. For those that don't know it, it is a 'rail-to-trail' that runs about 65 miles one way on pretty much a straight East/West route. It crosses roads of course, but runs free of traffic. We road to Watertown and had a good lunch with some nice cold beverages, then turned and headed back home.

There was some real beauty on the ride.

This blog shows 12 of my favorite images that I took this past Friday. I hope you enjoy them.

Salsa Crew minus Jason and Tornado Tim who got trapped in the office...

This gives you a good indication of what the Luce Line is all about...flat and straight... Pete and E-Fred...

The Luce Line is gravel with a horse trail running next to it. E-Fred puts his new La Cruz Ti to the hidden divot test...

Pete putting the Almanzo into the Luce Line...he's riding the newly updated Casseroll...

After a while the trail finally leaves the city, and then the mansions behind, and you are actually out into farm land and horse country...David riding the Casseroll as well...

Bobby getting a feel for the handling of the updated Fargo...

The trail crosses some tasty dirt gravel roads eventually as well. E-Fred drew the short straw and became the hill climbing model...

Mark and lots and lots of leafs...he's aboard the updated Fargo as well...

David and Joe about to go down the drain...

E-Fred leads Bobby up over a riser...

As you've probably noticed, the colors were off the hook...not to mention that we hit the mid-80's later in the day...in October...pretty dang sweet considering that soon enough the snowmobiles will be running on this trail...Pete and E-Fred...not sure how E-Fred made it into so many of my favorite images...

Which brings me to perhaps my favorite image of the day.

Pete onboard the Casseroll...surrounded by some beautiful color...

The next Salsa Ride Day is a ways off now. The days will be shorter then and the temps much colder. And these fine leaves will be gone again, covered in a thick blanket of snow and ice.

Thanks to the Crew for putting up with all the stops for photos. Hope you enjoyed them.

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

Same weather here in Michigan!  Took the Fargo out for 50 on dirt roads Saturday and just had to right back out and do 30 again on Sunday!  Great photos of your neck of the woods and that looked like a great time to be had.

I’m coming to Minneapolis from SD on Friday to pick up a new-to-me Fargo XT build, one of the last I’m told. I’d like to get a short (<20mi)ride in Saturday morning near or in the cities. Any good recommendations? I’m hoping for some nice semi-technical singletrack with a little gravel/dual track mixed in to open the Fargo up.
Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks.

Gotta use these last warmish days to their fullest here in MN!  Maybe I’m just delusional, but the great thing about living in Minneapolis is how much we embrace both fall and spring - we know where we’re going and then, well, we know what we just came out of.  Gorgeous pictures!  And yeah, I’m jealous.

Hey Chris, check out these two: Murphy-Hanrehan and Lebanon Hills.  Might be tough to open up on these mostly singletrack courses, but you’ll have fun.

I was out in Minneapolis a couple weeks ago for 3 weeks for work.  On the weekend, I discovered the Luce Line trail and rode it a long ways too.  You guys have some awesome “trails” in that city.

Great photos!! I love riding out and around the Luce Line. The gravel road loop is one of my favorite rides. Great way to add hills to pancake flat ride :)
