Today was a big day. My soon to be 5 year old twins started preschool. Some of you probably think I’m making too big a deal over it. Well, you are probably right.
I just can’t help it. Roughly 5 years ago I brought these two sub 5 pound kids, crying I might add, home from the hospital. They were so tiny and could barely make it an hour or so without needing food. Now they correct me when I use a wrong word, sing songs, help in the kitchen, paint pictures, ride bikes, and frequently challenge my wife and I on our views and beliefs. It’s crazy.
As we got ready for school today, I was reminded that kids are the greatest gift in the world and that we all should be so excited to learn. My kids were just so excited. They got dressed in their school clothes, grabbed their school bags, and couldn’t wait to go to school. My daughter sat in the car (with the doors open of course) for 20 minutes waiting for us. When we finally said “Let’s go” they squealed loudly! As soon as we opened the doors and got through the parking lot, they ran to the door. Just imagine how great it would be if all of us got that excited to learn.
Yeah, I’m a proud dad. I’m also thankful that almost everyday, I learn something from my kids.
I hope everyone enjoys the last days of summer. Get outside and enjoy it!

Growing up as a Minnesota farm boy, I developed an appreciation and love for land and open space. This appreciation has fostered two passions, cycling and photography. Both of these passions provide freedom, encourage me to explore and foster creativity. More importantly though, my journey with a bike and a camera reminds me that the world is big and I am small.
