Happy Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. Perhaps you want to do something to celebrate it?

Here are three quick suggestions.

1) Take a quick lunch break today, grab a bag, and go pick up some garbage around your home or workplace. You don’t have to do it for long, but every bit helps. It doesn’t take much effort and it may be something you find yourself enjoying doing every couple weeks. If others see you, great! It may encourage them to do some picking up someday as well.

2) Run through the list of ‘extras’ you’ve been thinking about buying lately. Think about whether you already have something that does the job of one or more of those items. If you do, tell yourself you’ll wait until Earth Day 2009 before considering that purchase again.

3) If you’ve got children, take out the calendar tonight and pick a date for a scheduled outdoor activity like camping, hiking, or a bike ride. Getting your kids outdoors and enjoying the environment speaks to the future of our planet.

Simple ideas that can have a positive impact in many different ways.

Peace out.

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

Heheh, you may want to reconsider #2 as I’m sure most of the people reading this are in the “one more bike” demographic.

How about this for good Earth Day advice: sell your car and buy one more bike.

Everybody wins

Thanks Helgi, but nope…I don’t want to reconsider #2. I’d just like people to consider their future purchases carefully and to apply a little critical thought.

I realize people will do what they want most of the time. But if they slow down even a few impulse purchases we benefit in the long run.

Have a good day.

Great suggestions. Here’s one for Salsa: how a post on this blog on Salsa’s (or even QBP’s) recent (or upcoming) efforts to become a more eco-friendly brand, with more sustainable business practices that have a net-neutral impact on the natural environment?

Anonymous, great suggestion. I need to just confirm your actual request though. Maybe it’s my sleep deprivation kicking in, but I want to make sure we understand.

Are you asking us to post regarding some of the recent, or future, efforts & results of our eco friendly practices and direction?

Hi, Butcher. Don’t forget to take brief naps during the day. It works wonders! Yes, I’m suggesting Salsa post on both its recent, and its planned efforts to become more eco-friendly in the near future.

Sweet. I’ll start with a good nap today! Then we’ll follow up with a blog post regarding our eco friendly efforts and direction.
