Having Some Fun At The Salsa Two-Four

Sorry to bump Jason's post down a spot but since Salsa is spending some moola on this weekend's 24 hour race...the Salsa Two-Four...we really do need to talk about it a bit. Then you guys can get back to building up the road bike.

The Salsa Two-Four benefits MORC, Minnesota's mountain bike advocacy group. That in turn benefits all of us at Salsa and of course all the mtb'ers in Minnesota.

This year we're taking our first steps to turning this into a festival of sorts. So we're adding some fun events to the mix.

The Salsa Two-Four Festival Award will go the Solo rider and Team that earn the most points. They'll get points for riding laps, of course, but they'll also get them for taking part in some fun, and at times, ridiculous, events.

Here's the schedule for that stuff. If you are in the area stop by and have a laugh while cheering on some gluttons for punishment. See http://www.salsa24fest.com for more details.

Friday
5:30pm Eat a spoonful of really hot salsa. You may not spit it out. You must swallow it to earn a point. Location: Salsa tent.

6:30pm One-Legged Time Trial. Successfully navigate the course with one leg and no dabs to earn a point. Fastest rider earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

7:30pm Trackstand Competition. This is a mass start event. All participants earn one point. Winner earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

8:30pm Dollar Bill Pickup. All participants earn a point. Winner earns 3 points. Location: Salsa tent

10:00pm The Bottle Game. No this doesn't involve drinking. All participants earn a point. Winner earns 3 points. Location: Salsa tent

Midnight Howling At The Moon. Possibly the simplest game, but points will only be rewarded to those that truly attempt to howl well. One point per participant. Best howl wins 3 points. Location: near announcer

Now get some sleep and prepare for round two...

Saturday
10:00am Hill Climb Competition. One attempt per rider to ride the obstacle laden slope. All participants earn a point. Winner earns 3 points. Location: to be determined. We will post the location at the Salsa booth once we figure it out. Bring a bike.

11:00am Wheelie Contest. One attempt per rider. All participants earn a point. Winner earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa booth. Bring a bike.

Noon Paperboy/Papergirl Shoot-Out. Speed and accuracy are needed in this head to head competition. All participants earn a point. Losers are eliminated. Winner advance. Champion earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

1:30pm Official Drag Racing Competition. Just what it sounds like. Drag racing. All participants earn a point. Losers are eliminated. Winner advance. Champion earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

2:30pm The Mule. Straight from the Jamaican MTB Festival. Complete three laps of The Mule course as quickly as you can while adding one 'item' to your load for each lap. All participants earn a point. Fastest time earns 3 points. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

4:00 Distance Can Knocking. Multiple attempts allowed. All participants earn a point. Winner earns 3 points. Last attempt occurs at 4:30pm. Location: near Salsa tent. Bring a bike.

6:00pm Awards Presentation. Location: Alps Chalet

That's the scoop. Bobby and I hope to see some of you out at Afton this weekend.

Mike Riemer

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

Can’t wait to get back to the virtual bike build.  What’s next?  Seatpost?  Fork?  Wheels?  I already have some suggestions ready!

Wow, that looks fun.  I am already regretting that I going to miss it.
