Perhaps this can be slated under the Rubbing It In category, but when you work with two Vikings fans like Bobby and Dave...how can I resist?
The smacktalking was going on Friday here at work and I was actually worried going into the weekend. I mean let's be honest here...the Packers were 7-1 and that was gonna come to a halt sooner or later. Adrian Peterson was looking like the future of the NFL. But yesterday the Packers moved to 8-1 and the Vikes didn't show up to play...what more can I say?
Now Bobby and Dave can actually talk about this stuff more intelligently than me. Bobby especially since he's one of those Fantasy Football geeks (when I say he's a geek it's in a good way you know). Bobby can name the players, their stats, all that stuff. Not me.
My folks both grew up in Wisconsin and by birthright that makes them Packer fans. I grew up in Korea, but they raised me well and instilled that same Green Bay Packers pride in me. And, yes, I am rubbing it on a bit thick here, I know! Seriously though, there's a 5th grade yearbook photo of me packing a snowball at recess while wearing my full Packers regalia: coat, hat, gloves, and belt buckle.
Growing up as a kid in Korea, I even used to write letters to Bart Starr asking for football cards. Never got any, but it was worth a shot. And it was all part of the fun that make up some great memories for me now. And to me that's what the whole pro sports/football thing winds up being about: Good Memories.
There aren't any bad memories. They win and they lose. The season comes and the season goes. And I'll always be cheering for The Pack.
Superbowl baby! (That was just to bug Dave!)
