Longing for Dirt

It’s been an interesting past year here in Salsa Land. We’ve travelled quite a bit and collectively, our crew’s been fortunate enough to ride in quite a few places, states and even a few other countries.

That said, I’m longing for dirt. It’s been cold and snowy this year here in MN. I remember riding dirt through Christmas last year. It didn’t snow until New Year’s Eve. As a result, I’ve been looking back through pictures. Here are a few of my favorites from 2007.

Kid’s First Bike Race

Maah Daah Hey

Big Wheel Ballyhoo

Riding The Ribbon with Mikesee

On top of that, there were countless other rides where I had no camera or just didn’t take pictures. I miss dirt!

Growing up as a Minnesota farm boy, I developed an appreciation and love for land and open space. This appreciation has fostered two passions, cycling and photography. Both of these passions provide freedom, encourage me to explore and foster creativity. More importantly though, my journey with a bike and a camera reminds me that the world is big and I am small.

I’ll be escaping to Gooseberry Mesa this weekend away from the the icy cold grasp winter still has on the Wasatch front. I will rally some dusty red dirt for us all!

Yeah, the midwest has been socked in as far as snowy trails for far too long this winter.  I find myself getting the dirt itch real bad right now too.  Time to put the road bike in the trainer so when the lustful dirt shows up again, I’m fit enough to ride it!

I was riding home today and found a patch of greasy dirt just exposed by the suns rays and released from its icy bonds. It’ll be so good to see miles of it before my hungry tires in a month or so!
