Minneapolis Weather Trivia

Apparently the jet stream has changed as we've taken a couple big steps toward spring here in Minnesota. We blew the top of the thermometer the other day when we broke 50 degrees. Lots of melting snow which is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view. No more skiing unless we get a big dumping of March snow and then you can't count on them firing up the groomer.

Of course, melting snow means non-winter bike riding is coming. Time to put a second tube in your jersey and maybe a patch kit as the sides of the roadways are depositing their glacial till of sand, grit, glass, fast food wrappers, and other assorted crap.

Oh yes...I promised trivia.

Last night was the first night in 4 months where it did not drop below freezing in Minneapolis.

There you have it. Enjoy the end of winter wherever you are.

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

I had my first ride in short in months today here in Western PA. My legs were the same color as Elmer’s glue- PASTYASSWHITE!

Now it is welcome to 10,000 potholes. This is bent rim season in Minnesota—

Woohoo! I’m so sick of riding the trainer that I could just about puke. First outdoor ride is scheduled for Sunday—3:25 in Zone 1-2. On my Las Cruces.

Now I need to start thinking about a commuter frame—Salsa Casseroll or Surly Cross-Check? Decisions, decisions. I know it’s going to be a 1x10 for gearing, but beyond that, I got nothing.

Ya’ll need to stop fighting so hard against mother nature… here in VA it’s in the high 60s and has been all week. My commute involves a light jacket on the way in and short sleeves on the way home. Not a cloud in the sky.

Tis nice.
