ADVENTURE BY BIKE®

Minute By Minute

Winter in Minnesota can start to seem a bit endless at times. Cold, snow, and ice keep some folks hidden inside, almost in a state of hibernation. Others revel in the cold white stuff and make the most of it.

But one thing plagues us all, and that is the small amount of daylight we receive during deepest winter (and yes, I know...some other places do have it worse).

Yet everyday we gain back precious minutes of sunlight. Minutes that are now noticeable to everyone.

Hope...is literally on the horizon.

So hang in there folks, and keep counting those minutes. Enjoy your weekend.

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.

I try to embrace winter as it approaches, but now the “hug” has just become, well awkward. I too am counting those minutes.

C’mon Salsa folks quit stallin’ & get those philanges dancing across them keyboards and give us those Titanium updates. We want the full course meal & not these little bread crumbs you’re leaving ....you’re killin us.

Here in Michigan I am still trying to make the best of winter, and frankly, I am pretty content with it all.  I have ridden on some trail, ran errands on bike and did some XC skiing.  I even walk more now than in the summer!  But still, I find myself thinking about those days in the woods when the temps are in the 80’s and I am riding singletrack or doing a long afternoon ride in the countryside on the Fargo…  Those days will be here soon enough, and I imagine by March I am going to be really antsy to shed the thick clothing and mittens!

Here in Maryland, halfway between D.C. and Charm City, we have the worse of both seasons. In the winter: too cold to ride and sometimes not enough snow to XC and then the summers!

I too have noticed the longer daylight hours…even though here in the Augusta GA area we have a lot more daylight than some of you yankees.

I love winter…but our winter doesn’t have much, if any, snow.  And during the summer it’s not uncommon to have a week straight of 100+ degree days.

I’ve noticed that during the winter, we all appreciate the sun a little more.  When its summer we start getting used to the sun, so it doesn’t seem as magical.  During the winter, anytime the sun peaks through those clouds, it’s a little miracle.  I always just want to run outside when I see the sun!  Can’t wait for it to finally be summer!
