NEW MN MTB TRAIL!!! Opportunity For Public Comment

Folks,

There is an exciting prospect for a new 50-mile singletrack trail system to be built about two hours from the Twin Cities, near Baxter, Minnesota (in the Brainerd area). This trail system would be called the Cayuna Recreational Mountain Bike Trail. I've been told there is A LOT of grant money available for this project.

In my mind, this is an opportunity for Minnesota to develop a trail much like one of the CAMBA clusters in Wisconsin. We all know how good those trails are. Having something like that but two hours closer would be an extremely exciting thing. It won't stop us from traveling northeast the Chequamy, but it gives folks a long ride option that isn't readily available in Minnesota currently.

If you support the development of this trail system, please consider sending a message of support THIS WEEK. Here is some info on where to send your comment.

Electronically: Send to environmental.review@dnr.state.mn.us. "Lake Cuyuna EAW” must be included in the subject line. Include your name and mailing address so that you can be added to the mailing list.

By fax: Submit signed comment letters by fax to (651) 297-1500.

Your letter doesn't have to be long, but there are many good things you can try to point out.

1) Minnesota is lacking a long distance trail system like this. Currently we need to go out of state to do this sort of ride. When we go out of state, our money goes with us.

2) This will be an economic benefit to that area.

3) Mountain biking is good, clean, healthy fun. It is an opportunity to help improve the health of our nation, especially our youth.

4) How often would you use these trails? I know for me, I'd travel there at least two or three times for weekends.

5) Minnesota mountain bikers have proven that they are good at maintaining and supporting the trails that we have. They can expect the same with this trail.

6) Minnesota mountain bikers build environmentally sustainable trails.

Please take a moment this week to send the DNR your comment of support.

Thanks,
Kid
