Salida, Colorado

When I was in college I dreamed of working for a bike company. I mean what could be better right? I'd get to build bikes and travel to amazing destinations to ride and talk about bikes. It would be bike heaven. It was a great dream, right? Well after 15+ years working for a bike company, this dream came true. I got to join several members of the Salsa crew and our Colorado sales rep, Tyler Anderson, in Salida, CO where we would be riding & testing some new bike models and capturing some imagery for our website, printed material, and product launches. Would it live up to my now almost 20 year old dream? Check out the pics but in short, yes.

I flew out and met the crew as I had to be in Montana over the weekend. While I did not make the grand road trip with the crew, my camera did. Check out a few snaps from Kelly Mac.

Our camp was on the Arkansas River. The Arkansas is a key artery to the area and is a playground for rafters, kayakers, campers and fisherman. For some brave souls like Kid Riemer, it is also a refreshing swimming hole.

Beyond the rafting and fishing, Salida is also known for it's grand beauty of the Collegiate Peaks and for it's mountain biking. This is why we were there, great trails and stunning landscapes. With the help of our friends at Absolute Bikes, we hit the trails. The rest of these images will speak for themselves.

In two short days, my 20 year old dream came true. It exceeded expectation. Thank you my friends. Thank you Salida.

Growing up as a Minnesota farm boy, I developed an appreciation and love for land and open space. This appreciation has fostered two passions, cycling and photography. Both of these passions provide freedom, encourage me to explore and foster creativity. More importantly though, my journey with a bike and a camera reminds me that the world is big and I am small.

Dang, you guys were camped right down the road from my house.  Wish I knew ya’ll were here, I would have brought my new vaya (purchased at absolute) over for a meet and greet.  Love the vaya for the smooth singletrack and dirt roads around here but hopefully it will really shine in the flint hills in a couple weeks!

mmmm…. bacon
Great pictures!  I love that area, it’s only 6’ish hours from Fort Collins and is great for a weekend.

Aaron, this trip was a bit unique and we had quite an agenda. We are sorry we didn’t get to meet you. The folks at Absolute told us about your Vaya. Please say hello in Emporia. Looking forward to meet you. Oh…And you have a sweet place to call home.
