Salsa Cycles 24 Hours of Afton

What could be more fun than a 24 hour race? Well, I found out this weekend while hanging out flying the Salsa colors and manning the Salsa booth. At first I was a bit concerned since this is the first 24 hour race that Salsa has sponsored. What would we do for 24 hours? Thankfully I found out that you get almost all the fun without all the brutal pedalling effort.

Before I go too far, I want to thank MORC for their continued support and commitment to build and maintain trails. Salsa's #1 goal for this event was to support MORC and I think we did a pretty good job. MORC put on a great show/festival. Salsa also designed a limited edition glow in the dark T-shirt and as a fundraiser, MORC sold almost 100 T-shirts. Thank you MORC. I can't say it enough.

Our second goal was to have fun and get some people excited about Salsa. Well, I think we did pretty darn well with that goal as well. Don, Bobby and I got set up on Friday. We brought a bunch of mountain bikes for test rides and many racers checked out a bike and actually raced some laps. We consistently received rave reviews and several folks came by and told us they had there best lap times on our bikes. While having a picnic with my wife and twins, I even got to witness someone ranting, in a good way, about how much he loved the bike and how his friend had to check out an El Santo for his last lap. I also got some great emails today from folks that thanked us for being there and one guy even asked what bars were on the bike he tested because he wants to try them on his rigid singlespeed. Sweet! Sounds like we achieved our goals.

Looking back, the weekend was a complete blur. 24 hours just fly by when you are hanging out with old friends, making new ones, riding some laps on a killer course, sleeping in a cargo van, partying, and eating. Wait, did I say eating? That's right, the highlight of the weekend was the Salsa making competition where we had 14 different home made salsa's. Lot's of folks gathered, tested, voted, drank, and had fun. In the end, we did crown our first annual Salsa king with "Sassy but sweet". I'll post the details along with his recipe when I return from Eurobike.

I'm off to Eurobike. I expect a bunch of our new 2008 info to come out in the next several days. I hope you like what you see.

Check back next week for a killer salsa recipe and photo's and trip report from Eurobike.
