ADVENTURE BY BIKE®

Sneak Peek Monday

We are taking a slightly different approach to sneak peeks.  On this one there is no guessing. It is a new 2011-2012 Salsa Vaya in orange. This color will be available as both a frameset and a complete bike based around the awesome SRAM APEX kit. Should be sweet.  This specific frame is getting built up as my Dirty Kanza 200 rig.

Right now, we are planning on getting complete info up on the Salsa site around the 19-20th of this month because we are showing this at our dealer show here in Minnesota that weekend. Look for detailed product info and pricing around that time. Enjoy!

GM | February 7th, 2011

Anyone want to buy my custom blacked out 2010 Vaya???

volvo945 | February 7th, 2011

You keep making stuff in Orange and I’ll keep buying it!

Wish the matching stems were back in production, but I know the reality of it all.

JimC | February 7th, 2011

Salsa Vaya… quite possibly the ultimate DK200 weapon.  Can’t wait to see the full build.

JoeB | February 7th, 2011

I love it.  Orange is the new black.

Elvis | February 7th, 2011

and Ti is the new orange.

RandyA | February 8th, 2011

Very cool. Love the orange!

ps. I believe the Ti frame in the background is the ‘11 Ti El Mar.

Luke | February 8th, 2011

I will literally be sitting on the edge of my seat for the next 2 weeks!

Bicycle Dreamer | February 8th, 2011

Canti Brakes ????????

Eric | February 8th, 2011

Any news on when that color will be available to buy as a frame set? I’ve been jonesing for one and everybody is out of stock in colorado :(

Raiyn | February 8th, 2011

The Vaya combined with the SRAM Apex group is the bicycle equivalent of a Dark Reese’s cup SHEER AWESOMENESS

Adventure Monkey | February 8th, 2011

OOOOoooo, that orange Vaya would look sweet against the green Flint Hills in the spring. Wish I could finish the DK200 on one of those this year, but it may be out of grasp. <tear>

Dann | February 8th, 2011

I already got this bad boy on order with my LBS.  Cannot wait to get it!  Keep doing what you’re doing Salsa.

nicole st.germain | February 8th, 2011

I prayed, you listened.

MEM | February 9th, 2011

What will the MSRP be? I was a hair away from ordering the 2010 model but this ‘11 model REALLY appeals to me!

Tom | February 9th, 2011

I just upgraded my Vaya to (older)Sram Force with Apex rear cog and der.

G | February 12th, 2011

Love the orange Vaya. What about some canti’s I hate these bb7’s.Cantis would make my vaya perfect.

DC | February 13th, 2011

Keep us updated on your DK build on the Vaya…Thanks!

DC | February 14th, 2011

Anyone…Does the Vaya folk have the back-of-fork-leg water bottle mounts in the triple configuration like the Fargo?

Thanks!

Darren

G | February 15th, 2011

No the vaya has three on the frame.2 in the normal seat tube and down tube.It also has 1 under the bottom of the down tube. Its a pretty good set up but if you dont cover the bottom bottle with something it gets grimey from mud and gravel.

Raiyn | February 15th, 2011

@G

Ever think of using a full coverage fender?  Bicycle Times mounted up a set of Velo Orange Hammered and things look much better for a undertube mounted bottle.

G | February 15th, 2011

Don’t get me wrong,I wasn’t complainig.I think its good.A full fender won’t work for the gravel grinders I ride, they would get clogged with mud and rocks but I do use a sks fender that helps a little.I just ziptie a quart ziploc around the lid and that keeps the lid nice and clean.

Jeff | February 16th, 2011

Have one on order with my LBS but when will they be getting it!

How about talking SRAM or Shimano into making a set of their road shifter/brake levers work with BB7 MTB brakes as the road versions do not have enough power IMHO.

David | February 17th, 2011

@Jeff,

How about just going all the way to a road hydraulic brake with integrating shifting? (Hydrifters?)

Awesome bike, love the new color and the replaceable derailleur hanger!

Jeff | February 17th, 2011

@David,

Well I guess they could but I feel that mechanicals are more than sufficient with MTB levers so a road lever with similar cable pull would be as well. I also think there is more of a chance to get these type made vs. hydraulic. I think fitting a master cylinder into a current brake/shifter road bike lever would be difficult and perhaps ugly. I am also just not a fan of the maintenance of hyd. brakes in general. Bleeding is a messy PITA IMHO. But if they do make Hyd. ones instead of mechanical levers then I could live with that…

Max Beach | February 17th, 2011

Can we buy those Silver Bell-Laps seperately?

Gnat | February 17th, 2011

NO silver Bell Laps sold individually.  Sorry.

FYI - The Salsa website should be updated tomorrow afternoon with the new Vaya info.

Max Beach | February 17th, 2011

thanks for the response…too bad… would love silver Bell Laps on a number of my classic steel bikes.  But thanks anyway

HugoFar | February 18th, 2011

Great to see the Vaya page has been updated.Looking good, although it still has BB5’s!(and rather low grade hubs)Little things can make a big difference when you’re on the road and the easy adjustable nature of the BB7’s is surely worth the small initial up-cost.(IMHO)
Will you be adding frame size specific, handle bar and stem sizes as you’ve done previously?
And finally, will the “new suspension corrected Fargo 2 fork” in the “Components” section be updated soon? I’m still planning to fit one on my El Mariachi.
Cheers,Hugo

Kid Riemer | February 18th, 2011

HugoFar - Yes, we will add that info in the coming couple of weeks (for all our bikes). Sorry we haven’t got it up at this time.

And yes, the 2011 Fargo fork will be updated as well.

Enjoy your weekend.

Jeffrey King | February 18th, 2011

When are these going to be available?

Chris | February 19th, 2011

I LOVE that orange! looks like the orange that was on my Las Cruces…

Andre | March 3rd, 2011

Will the new Vaya be available in two colors?
Orange and Dark grey?
-thanks

Bobby | March 3rd, 2011

The complete bikes are available in the Orange only but frame sets will be availble in either the Orange or the Charcoal color.

Matt | August 14th, 2011

the 2011 Vaya in the 60CM frame is completely sold out when will the 2012 bikes go on sale?

Kenny | January 2nd, 2012

Keep BB7’s on it.  And think about BB7’s on all future Vayas. I bought a Vaya 3 6 weeks ago and AM NOT HAPPY with the BB5’s.  Otherwise, very pleased.

Chris | January 2nd, 2012

I bought the orange Vaya with Apex this past summer and tried to live with the BB5’s for a while and finally ended up replacing them with BB7’s…  much better and easier to adjust…
