Feed My Starving Children
Last night our Cub Scouts den met up at non-profit organization called Feed My Starving Children. FMSC provides meals to starving children overseas. Some Twin Cities corporations helped them develop their meal formula so that the food provides the proper nutrition, while also being simple to prepare. They told us some amazing stories before putting us to work preparing meals for shipment.
I'll share just one story about a boy who at 8 years of age weighed just 19 lbs. Imagine that. Just 19 lbs. As my wife said, Jordan weighted about 19 lbs after he was just 3 months old. FMSC provided food to the boy and after eating just one, one cup meal of it each day for two months, his weight had increased to over 40 lbs.
There were other volunteer groups there at the same time we were. Everyone was shown the basic tasks involved and then we got down to business. In a little over an hour, we packaged 7,776 meals. The work was easy. The kids actually enjoyed it. And they were very happy to be helping some other children who are in dire need of help.
At this time, FMSC is primarily a Minnesota organization with three locations in the Twin Cities. They are in the process of expanding and opening a new location in Chicago though.
I encourage you to check out Feed My Starving Children. If you can, consider donating some time or money to their effort. A little help can go a long, long way.
For my part, the short hour and a half helping last night felt like the least I could do after all the blessings I have received in my life. It felt good to help out others who don't have many folks looking out for them.
Thanks for considering,
Kid
