Salsa Ride Day!
How sweet is this? A cool front came in last night dropping the temperature from the rut of 90 degree days we’ve been having. And this is happening just in time for our first Salsa Ride Day of the season.
What’s a Salsa Ride Day? Ah, read on and wish you weren’t sitting at the keyboard right now!
Once a month from spring through fall, the Salsa crew takes the afternoon off and we all go riding together. Sometimes it is just riding. Sometimes we throw in some chips, beer, and salsa. Thus far we’ve always gone mountain biking, although Don is pushing us for a road riding day. This year we haven’t had a ride day yet because so many of us have been travelling frequently.
But today it is on! We’re hitting the river trail just down the hill from Salsa world headquarters. We’re chowing on sandwiches, chips and salsa. I’ve got some beer in the back of the car to load into our packs. And we’re good to go!
These ride days are the inspiration of Jason, the Salsa general manager. They’re meant to be a reward for working hard, getting stuff done, and for keeping us fired up and in the groove. All I know is that it is damn fun to shut down the computer, throw on the riding gear, and tear up some singletrack for work!
If you’re a boss out there, try to figure out something you can do with your crew to reward them in fun, social manner. They’ll dig it and you’ll all be the better for it.

I love being outside. I prefer to ride on dirt. Or snow. If I was born a hundred years earlier I might have been a polar explorer. There's a great natural world out there to see, smell, taste, listen to, and experience. Life slows down out there and the distractions we've created will disappear if you let them. Give me a backpack and let me go.
