What kind of cyclist are you?
Solo rider.  I spend the vast majority of time riding by myself.

How long has cycling been a part of your life? When did it become more than just “riding a bike”?
I have been riding since I was probably 4 or 5(it’s so far back, I don’t really remember).  It became more in High School when my friend took me mountain biking for the first time. That was it, I was hooked.

The cycling accomplishment you’re proudest of to date
Riding up L’Alpe d’Huez despite being a Minnesota kid who hadn’t ridden a climb more than a mile long before.

Favorite place you’ve been on a bike so far?
Riding on Mt. St. Helens.  It was otherworldly.

Favorite place to daydream about that you haven’t yet ridden?
Anywhere in South America

How do you describe what the bicycle means to you?
It’s a bit cliché, but a bicycle means freedom to me. Freedom to slow down, and savor the small things in life.

How will your future as a cyclist unfold?
I’m a dad now, so I’m spending a lot of time with the boy trailing behind me. I’ll be spending a lot of time with him, teaching the joys of bike riding. Outside of that, I want to do more Bikepacking trips.

Who inspires you and your riding?
All the Salsa sponsored riders and the amazing adventures that they dream up and tackle. It is truly inspiring.

Favorite Salsa model and why?
I love my Beargrease. Having a fat bike has changed everything for me. I use it year round, and it has made biking year round an exciting prospect. Biking in the winter used to be sketchy chore, but not anymore.

Favorite pre, during, and post ride/race food and bevvies?
Pre-ride: a nice greasy breakfast with eggs, bacon, hasbrowns. During: Energy Bar or Banana. Post: Buffalo wings and Beer.

When you’re not cycling…
Reading anything I can get my hands on. Spending as much time outside as possible.

What don’t you leave home without on a ride?
Phone, Helmet, water bottle.
