What kind of cyclist are you?
I do not discriminate, but let’s be clear, mountain biking rules.
How long has cycling been a part of your life? When did it become more than just “riding a bike”?
Been ripping around neighborhoods since I was a little. That’s what you did growing up in Fremont.
The cycling accomplishment you’re proudest of to date?
Crossing a really cussed-up section of Cambodia.
Favorite place you’ve been on a bike so far?
Too many competing forces to answer that one.
Favorite place to daydream about that you haven’t yet ridden?
Will HR read this?
How do you describe what the bicycle means to you?
It has been said before and I don’t think I can say it any better. Freedom.
How will your future as a cyclist unfold?
I want to be an old fart, helping other old farts ride bikes… encourage a new experience.
Who inspires you and your riding?
Hands down the people I meet along the way. Especially when touring in remote places, I’m continually blown out of the water by people’s generosity and humanity.
Favorite Salsa model and why?
Pick just one bike? I wasn’t born with that gene.
Favorite pre, during, and post ride/race food and bevvies?
Pickle juice and beer.
When you’re not cycling…
In very small type (trail running). Making things. Friends. Family. Day dreaming.
What don’t you leave home without on a ride?
Whatever it is, I usually forget it.
