What kind of cyclist are you?
Versatile opportunist.

How long has cycling been a part of your life? When did it become more than just “riding a bike”?
My cycling life to a big turn while delivering breakfast burritos by bike in Fort Collins, CO. I started donating my leftovers to a few local shop owners and eventually, I was taken in by the bicycle coop, learned to wrench and became a passionate cycling advocate. Racing cyclocross and riding gravel has led to a major resurgence of the sport for me.

The cycling accomplishment you’re proudest of to date?
Returning to cyclocross and gravel racing after a couple years of injury has me feeling proud. I’m looking forward to many more years in the saddle.

Favorite place you’ve been on a bike so far?
San Juan Islands, Washington

Favorite place to daydream about that you haven’t yet ridden?
Mountains and coastlines are the stuff of daydreams for this flatlander. Either sunny California or the great Minnesota north woods keep me inspired.

How do you describe what the bicycle means to you?
Cycling gives me the freedom to explore my surroundings, push myself mentally and physically and to find calm in a busy life.

How will your future as a cyclist unfold?
I’m looking forward to expanding my horizons out of my well-trod local haunts to explore greater distances and further flung locales.

Who inspires you and your riding?
My wife is always driving us to the next level of fitness, wellbeing and together we push each other toward a consummate athlete lifestyle. I’m lucky to have a partner in health and adventure. The Salsa team and crew are always onto some next level adventures! From Jay P’s stories of the Divide and Silk Road to Laura’s Chaise Chase there is no shortage of inspiration in this crew.

Favorite Salsa model and why?
Warbird is at home on dirt, efficient enough for pavement and rowdy enough for some singletrack. Ideally all on one ride, can’t beat that versatility and potential for exploration!

Favorite pre, during, and post ride/race food and bevvies?
Pre: Yogurt berries and walnuts
Mid: Bacon wrapped pickles and Coca Cola Classic
Post: Tacos. All of the tacos

When you’re not cycling…
Trail running with my wife and doggo, volunteering with MN High School MTB League, cooking up grub or schemes.
