2016 Unbound Gravel 200 -- Rider Five: Matt Acker

Please note: This blog post has been updated to reflect this event’s current name.

This year Salsa is sending 13.5 riders to participate in 2016's Unbound Gravel 200. Matt Acker is rider No. 5.

Salsa Cycles: What is your goal at this year’s Unbound Gravel 200?

Matt Acker: To claim a step on the overall podium again!

SC: What is your biggest fear going into the event?

MA: Dealing with the heat if conditions are hot and dry. I prefer the rain, wind, and mud from last year’s event.

SC: What have you done to prepare and how are you combating that fear?

MA: I spent some time training down in Tennessee, trying to get used to the warmer temperatures since it’s been pretty mild here in Michigan so far. It’s always windy here in West Michigan, so that doesn’t bother me. I’ve also been experimenting with some different electrolyte delivery methods and hydration options.

SC: What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Unbound Gravel event?

MA: I’m looking forward to the comradery and endless gravel roads. The solitude of the Flint Hills and the beautiful terrain is awe-inspiring.
