99 Bridges: Bikepacking Wisconsin's Dairyland

Laura and Art ride their bikes across an old, single-lane wooden bridge with tall, rusting iron trusses overhead.

This summer, Scott and Laura Haraldson teamed up wiith their friend, Art, for a four-day tour on the gravel roads of southern Wisconsin's dairyland. It was a sublime adventure with all the hallmarks of a quality bike tour: friendly people, fascinating local history, and ice cream stops. The trio also encountered plenty of surprises during the 225-mile ride, from tornado warnings to the namesake number of bridges.

Laura and Art ride their bikes down a densely-vegetated double track rail trail.

Scott tells the story of the 99 Bridges ride in words and pictures, with some advice thrown in for anyone who might want to re-create it. Enjoy.
