Introducing Salsa Touring Panniers

We’re pleased to announce the arrival of our new front and rear Touring Panniers.
Salsa Touring Pannier, Front model...
We spent a lot of time discussing the merits and disadvantages of different configurations over the years, and shared our own experiences on the road and trail, to design what’s ultimately a very simple yet supremely reliable pannier.
Salsa Touring Pannier, Rear model...
I’ve tried quite a few variations of panniers myself over the years. Current offerings tend to fall somewhere in-between the “bazillion compartments” style and the “dry bag” style. There are pros and cons to each.
For me, the “bazillion compartments” style only really lends itself to full-blown, Tetris-style geeking out about which pocket will hold what. “Should I make this compartment the tool pouch?” Inevitably, everything will fit except one tool I can’t leave home without, and the idea of that item having to be alone, away from the rest of its team, drives me nuts. When everything miraculously fits in the available spaces it’s a fun accomplishment, but it’s still limiting. It has often forced me into removing the entire pannier to bring into my tent at night even if I didn’t need everything in it. Not a huge deal, but it takes up room that could be used for hosting a party...or drying wet riding clothes.
The dry bag system solves the aforementioned issues. It’s much easier to find different sized pouches you can then make into kits – all your tools in one, toiletries in another, cooking gear in yet another. Just take out the pouch you need for the night or task at hand, roll up the top of the pannier, and leave it on the bike…even if it’s raining all night.
Salsa Touring Pannier, Front model mounting system...
I found bags like this to be far more efficient through the course of the day. They are one less thing to worry about in less than ideal weather and impervious to a zipper disaster. A broken external zipper on a compartmentalized bag is a big deal.
I’m pretty happy that our new panniers tick everything off my pros list. Fully waterproof fabric and radio frequency welded construction means they’ll get you through all conditions and see you through a great many miles and adventures. They’re also interchangeable left to right so they can mount to either side of the rack, and the highly adjustable, durable attachment hardware allows for a customizable fit depending on load weight and size.
I’m also pretty sure they’re just going to look better with age too, without losing any of the functionality.
Salsa Touring Pannier, Rear model mounting system...
All of these features make for a truly a great bag system that works equally well for long and short rides alike. They’re in stock now, and ready to be filled with a home away from home, or a six-pack, brats, and buns.
