Mukluk & Blackborow - Updated For 2019
Near and dear to my heart, the Mukluk was Salsa’s first fat bike.
Those were exciting days as we drew up our fat bike prototype drawings, built steel framed mules (Snowball and Rustflake), and proceeded to put them to the test in order to refine our geometry concepts before entering into final production with aluminum framesets. We were finally entering the fat bike category, something many of us had longed for, for many years.
The years since have been just as exciting. Fat bikes have moved from being sometimes awkward clown bikes to truly fun-to-ride off-road machines. Our fat bikes have gotten better and better over the years, and 2019 is no exception.
For 2019, we are offering three model levels of Mukluk. All receive a stellar new graphics package and colorways, but most importantly the Kingpin fork enters the arena, and fork specs change by model level.
2019 Mukluk Carbon GX Eagle – MSRP $3,999
Mukluk Carbon GX Eagle receives our new Kingpin Deluxe fork. This full carbon fork brings with it a huge array of features:
26 x 5" tire fit on 100mm rims
Dual sets of Three-Pack mounts
Mid-blade mounts for low rider racks/panniers
Internal dynamo wire routing for those upgrading to dynamo hubs
Imagine the possibilities!
2019 Mukluk Carbon NX Eagle – MSRP $2,999
Mukluk Carbon NX Eagle receives our new Kingpin fork. Kingpin features carbon construction with an aluminum steerer, while sharing all of the other features listed above.
2019 Mukluk Deore 1x – MSRP $1,899
Mukluk Deore 1x, our aluminum Mukluk, continues to use our highly respected Bearpaw Carbon fork, featuring:
Full carbon construction
Clearance for 26 x 4.8" tire on 100mm width rim
Forward-facing Three-Pack mounts
For those that like to build from the ground up, our 2019 Mukluk frameset includes the Kingpin Deluxe fork at MSRP $1,999.

2019 Blackborow GX Eagle – MSRP $2,899
Our Blackborow fat bike returns for 2019 in a new colorway, and with even increased carrying capacity. The expedition hauler receives our new Kingpin Fork, which brings with it the following features:
