Part 2 - Chase the Chaise - Red Velvet

The Chaise came to life as an antique chaise lounge covered in luxurious red velvet — the kind of sumptuous, gaudy velvet that felt more appropriate for a palace than a minimum-maintenance road. But that was the point.

We debuted The Chaise at the 2018 Mid South. We set up about 22 miles from the finish on a nice set of red dirt rollers. We were waiting in our camping chairs, eyes set on the top of the rise, waiting and wondering if riders would stop.

Soon enough, two lead riders crested that rise a hundred and fifty yards away or so. We saw them pull side by side and could hear them talking:

“Are we stopping?”

“Yes, but let’s make it fast.”

We’re indebted to those two riders for stopping. One of them went on to win the event, proving that a stop at The Chaise for a photo was not necessarily detrimental to your race efforts.

The Chaise tour continued that year with four more events:

  • Le Grand du Nord
  • Unbound XL
  • Unbound Gravel
  • Gravel Pursuit


With each one, The Chaise grew in popularity as word (and photos) spread.
