“Some of the faster riders afterwards were like, ‘I wish I’d done it a bit slower, wish I’d had a bit more company.’ And so it’s a looney experience, I think.”
The Kōpiko Aotearoa is a self-supported bikepacking event across New Zealand’s North Island (Te Ika-a-Māui).
Riders cover 1,100 kilometers (680 miles) of pavement, gravel, and rugged trails as they ride from East Cape to Cape Egmont. It’s a magnificent ride by any measure, packed with scenic vistas, geological marvels, generous locals, and even wild fruit by the roadside.
Deane Parker and Dylan Gerschwitz created a film during this year’s ride so you can join along. Watch kōpiko now to get in on the experience and get inspired for your next big ride.
