2016 Dirty Kanza 200 -- The Dirty Eleven: Rob Versteegh

This year Salsa is sending the Dirty 13.5 to participate in 2016's Dirty Kanza 200. Rob Versteegh is Dirty No. 11.

Salsa Cycles: What is your goal at this year’s DK200?

Rob Versteegh: My goal for DK this year is to have fun, take it all in, and finish! It’s my first year doing the event, though it’s been on my list for some time.

SC: What is your biggest fear going into the event?

RV: Not really a fear, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m a bit concerned that I’ve yet to get any riding in this year in a lot of heat—Iowa has had a cool spring. I don’t want my first hot ride of the year to be 200 miles! You never know how the body holds up and/or digests food the first few hot rides each year.

SC: What have you done to prepare and how are you combating that fear?

RV: I’ve been riding as much as I can, and keeping it fun–this IS supposed to be fun, after all. I’ve logged a handful of 100-plus-mile gravel rides with friends I most enjoy riding with, as well as lots of shorter rides. Combating the concern is hard when you can’t ride in the conditions ... but being prepared in every other way eases the negative thoughts a bit.

SC: What are you most looking forward to at this year’s Dirty Kanza event?

RV: Spending an amazing day with amazing folks doing amazing things.
