Fresh Gravel: New Warbird & Stormchaser

Side views of the new Salsa Cycles Warbird and Stormchaser bicycles; text on image reads GRAVEL SINCE THE BEGINNING

We reckon that more people are discovering and enjoying their local gravel roads right now than at any other point in history. In addition to making us feel all warm and fuzzy inside, it makes announcing our latest gravel lineup even sweeter. Warbird and Stormchaser are back this year with new colors and build options. They may be two different bikes but they share a common goal: opening up new roads.

Warbird

As the original purpose-built gravel race bike, Warbird has generations of refinement in its DNA. A carbon fiber frame and fork deliver efficient power transfer in a lightweight and compliant package. Our Class 5™ VRS (Vibration Reduction System) soaks up the vibrations from roads that used to rattle fillings loose. Thoughtful mounting points allow you to carry more water and accessories so you can go farther without stopping. Tire clearance up to 700c x 45 mm or 650b x 2.0" lets you choose the type of ride you want.

Stormchaser

Unexpected weather or truly foul conditions can amplify the challenges of any gravel route, resulting in a perfect storm of trouble that wreaks havoc on riders and their bikes. Stormchaser is our response. The alloy frame with Class 5™ VRS pairs well with the carbon fork for a blend of durability and performance. Its geometry takes cues from Warbird but offers a slacker head tube angle and longer wheelbase for even greater stability in the muck. To combat mud-caked tires, Stormchaser offers clearance for up to 700c x 50 mm or 650b x 50 mm. In fact, Stormchaser has 40% more room between the stays than Warbird when measured with a 700c x 42 mm tire. Abrasion plates and the single-speed drivetrain (a 1x geared drivetrain is also possible) boost the bike’s resilience to weather’s ill effects. Ample mounts for bottles, snacks, accessories and more let you extend the range of your rides.

Finally, a note on availability: the bike industry is in the midst of an unprecedented bike boom. People are looking for responsible ways to get outside during the pandemic and we are thankful that the bicycle has been an outlet for so many during this time. While Salsa is bringing in more bikes than ever, there are simply not enough to satisfy the total need at the moment due to extraordinary demand, increased lead times for components, factory capacity, and shipping container shortages. But there are bikes out there! To help you find the one you want, we’ve put together some resources for tracking down the Salsa that will take you on your next Adventure by Bike: https://salsacycles.com/culture/finding_a_salsa_bike
