Carbon performance, fat-tire confidence: that’s what Beargrease brings to every ride, from groomed-trail races in the dead of winter to summer trail bike duties. Beargrease is a highly nimble carbon fat-tire bike, thanks to its efficient frame, trail geometry, and 27.5″ wheels. Bottle and cargo mounts on the frame and fork make it easier to fuel endurance rides or bikepacking journeys. Factor in the rock-solid Shimano Cues 11-speed drivetrain, and there’s nothing in your way.

Additional Features

High-Modulus Carbon Fiber Frame

This material offers improved stiffness, better vibration damping, excellent durability, and weight savings compared to other frame materials

Beargrease Geometry

A long front/center, short stem, and wide bars, and 440 mm chainstays create room to move and add confidence while maneuvering on tight trails. This geometry results in a fat bike that rides like a trail bike. It is stable, steers well in loose conditions, and remains nimble and agile despite the massive wheels and tires. The low bottom bracket height is also key to keeping the rider’s center of gravity low, which makes dabbing, dismounting, and remounting easier

27.5 x 4" Wheel & Tire Size

Beargrease rolls on 27.5 x 3.8" wheels and tires. For groomed snow or dirt, this diameter provides increased rollover, a longer contact patch, and the flotation of a 3.8" tire without the added rolling resistance when compared to a 26" wheel

Bearpaw Fork

Featuring carbon construction with an aluminum steerer. The Bearpaw fork features a 150 x 15 mm thru-axle that boosts stiffness and improves steering precision. The fork also features our Three-Pack mounts for accessorizing with Anything Cages or water bottle cages.

Front Wheel & Tire Options

The fork included with this frame works with the following wheel and tire combinations: 26 x 3.8–5" on up to a 100 mm rim / 27.5 x 3.0–4.0" on an 80 mm rim / 29 x 2.3–3.0"" on a 50 mm rim

Rear Wheel & Tire Options

The Beargrease Carbon frame is compatible with the following wheel, tire, and rim sizes: 26 x 4.3–4.6" on up to a 100 mm rim / 27.5 x 3.0–4.0" on an 80 mm rim / 29 x 2.3–3.0" on a 50 mm rim

Optimal Drivetrain Design with Narrow Q-Factor Cranks

The Beargrease Carbon frame is designed for the best of all drivetrain performance while maintaining narrow fat bike crank arms for less knee stress: 197 mm symmetrical rear end for modern rim and tire fit / 100 mm threaded bottom bracket / Rider-friendly narrow Q-factor cranks / 1x optimized frame design / Up to a 32t max chainring

Internal Sleeved Cable Routing

The Beargrease Carbon frame features fully sleeved, internal cable routing. This improves shifting performance in poor conditions, increases time between maintenance intervals, and makes running new cables and housing a breeze

Dropper Post Compatible with Stealth Routing

The Beargrease Carbon frame features fully sleeved, internal cable routing. This improves shifting performance in poor conditions, increases time between maintenance intervals, and makes running new cables and housing a breeze

Rear Rack Compatible

Designed for use with the Salsa Alternator Rack 170/177 (Salsa Rack-Lock seatpost collar required)

Multiple Accessory Frame Mounts

Beargrease features numerous accessory mounts: Top tube mounts accommodate K-Edge Top Tube Mount for bike computers or the Salsa EXP Series Direct Mount Top Tube Bag / 2 water bottle mounts inside frame triangle / 1 accessory mount underneath downtube

FAQ

Can I run a front rack on this frame?

The Beargrease models that feature Kingpin Deluxe and Kingpin forks feature mid-blade mounts for Salsa Down Under Rack and Down Under HD rack compatibility.

Can I run a rear rack on this frame?

Yes, with the lower rack bosses in the frame and a Salsa 35.4 Rack Lock Seat Collar you can run the Salsa Alternator 170/177 rear rack. While the back end of the Beargrease is 197mm spaced, we designed the stays a narrow width for l heel clearance with big boots, thus it uses the Alternator 170/177 rear rack.

What width cranks will this frame accept?

Though the new frame features a 197mm rear spacing it is still compatible with narrow q-factor cranks designed around a 100mm threaded BB with a nominal 75mm chainline. Both Race Face and SRAM offer cranks like this.

Can I run a front derailleur on this frame?

No, we have designed the Beargrease around a 1x only setup with 32t max chainring. If you would like a fat bike with front derailleur compatibility, consider the Mukluk.

What wheel and tire sizes can I use on this frame?

The Beargrease is capable of running 27.5" wheels with tires 3.0–4.0" on up to an 82mm rim, as well as 26" wheels with tires 3.8–4.6" on up to a 100mm rims, and 29" wheels with 2.25–3.0" tires on up to a 50mm rims.

Can I use a suspension fork on this frame?

Yes, you can run any of the options from RockShox or Manitou that have an axle to crown of 511mm, an average 100mm fork, no adapters needed.

Do you offer touch-up paint?

No, we do not offer touch up paint. Hobby shops or automotive stores are excellent places to find paint. We suggest you test the paint on a scrap piece of metal before using it on your frame.

I crashed and dented (or cracked) my frame. Is it safe to ride?

Stop riding your frame immediately and take it to the nearest Salsa authorized dealer for inspection. A dented or cracked tube represents a structural weakening of the frame, and is a safety risk.
